When to Pick Cherries & Peaches in The Gorge
π The Cherry Collection
Evans specializes in a wide range of sweet and sour cherries, ripening in a specific sequence from mid-June through July.
Santina: The season starter large, dark red, and very sweet with low acidity.
Bing: The "standard" cherry. Perfectly balanced sweetness and tang; great for eating fresh or preserves.
Rainier: The premium yellow cherry with a pink blush. Exceptionally sweet and delicate.
Lapin: Large and juicy red cherries that ripen just after the Bings.
Regina: A late-season favorite. Very firm and crunchy with a deep, sophisticated flavor.
Montmorency (Sour/Pie Cherry): The bright red classic for baking. These get richer and more flavorful the longer they stay on the tree.
π The Peach Varieties
We keep a few hundred peach trees specifically because we LOVE "tree-ripenedβ peaches.
Earlystar: Ripens in mid-July (usually right as cherry season is ending). Itβs a semi-freestone peach with classic yellow flesh and minimal fuzz.
Redhaven: The "gold standard" of peaches. Ripens in late July/early August. It is a true freestone peach, famous for its superior flavor and canning quality.
Why their fruit stands out:
Tree-Ripened Only: Unlike grocery store fruit that is picked green to survive shipping, Evans fruit stays on the branch until the sugars are fully developed.
The "Safest Choice" Philosophy: Because Phil and Davina live in the orchard with their kids, they prioritize OMRI-certified products and manage their U-Pick blocks with minimal intervention.
Acre-by-Acre Care: Our blocks are managed based on their own specific needs and the weather, ensuring each piece of fruit gets the right attention.
